These 4 Careers jobs only exist in Nigeria 5,591 Comments / Lifestyle / By Chidera Ikemefuna / December 13, 2018 - 9:06 AM Nigerians are nothing, if not resourceful, and in a country of unique challenges, we’ve managed to create these unique solutions and jobs to meet them. Some of these jobs exist outside of Nigeria, in a few countries on the African continent. But where they do, they are merely watered-down versions of what we have in Nigeria. The only similarity between a bus conductor in Owerri and another in Kampala is the name; nobody in East Africa can teach you to shout sixteen bus-stops in the same syllable. (1) Super-Human Bus Conductor (Agbero): Transport in Nigeria is mostly in the hands of private interests who manage thousands of buses that ply our “roads”. The bus conductor usually doesn’t have a seat of his own so he latches on to the frame of the bus for most of the ride. The problem The problem though is that, in Nigeria, a lot of these tribal ma

Check why a job that pays 70k is not too bad to take. The end of the compulsory National Youth Service Corps program is usually the beginning of employment struggle for most Nigerian graduates. The graduates’ struggle to get a job in Nigeria is underscored by the high rate of unemployment in the country. According to the statistics attributed to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the youth unemployment rate in Nigeria increased in the third quarter of 2017 to 33.10%. This percentage represents the highest ever in the country. Despite this figure, Nigerian tertiary institutions churn out graduates every year, the same way the NYSC releases graduates into the labour market after serving the country for one year. Often confused with Igbos because of the language similarities, the Ika people are one of the tribes in the Delta and Edo states. The Ika tribe is not Igbo or Benin, but shares similarities with them. For instance, the Ika language is very similar to Igbo, as even their names bear the same semblance. Ika people also share so much in terms of culture and lifestyle with the Benin people as most of the Ika communities were discovered by Benin Prince’s and chiefs. Brief background Ika marriage ceremony (Farabale Africa) The Ika people do not trace their ancestry to common origin. The various clans that make up Ika have many origins. Similarities of the language with Igbo suggests there might be Igbo connections but oral accounts and cult

international oil market experiences increase of oil price, presently $80.

The oil price has climbed above 80 dollars per barrel for the first time in three-and-a-half years amid simmering global tensions over Iran. Brent crude has been rising in recent months as supplies tighten and the decision by Donald Trump to pull out of an international nuclear deal with Tehran has added to the upward pressure. The rising price of oil will add to the pressure on motorists’ fuel bills. But is a welcome trend for oil companies including BP and Royal Dutch Shell, two companies which are staples of UK pension funds. Markets have been reacting to the prospect of a sharp drop in Iranian oil exports after the US decision on the deal. French energy giant, Total, said on Wednesday that it might abandon a multi-billion dollar gas project in the country if it could not secure a waiver from US sanctions, adding to doubts on European-led efforts to salvage the international nuclear agreement. Meanwhile, global inventories of oil have dropped sharply in recent months on robu

IPOB LAMENTS ON THEIR ORDEAL, ALERTS SOUTH EAST AND SOUTH SOUTH GOVERNMENT'S

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has hailed the recently released US State Department report indicting the Federal Government and security agencies over alleged killings of pro-Biafra agitators as a welcome development. While expressing its displeasure over the calibre of sources cited by the report and the omission of casualty figures, the separatist organization in setting the record straight claimed Nigerian security agents had killed a total of 1, 247 of its members since 2016. The 2017 Country Report on Human Rights Practices released by the U.S. State Department on April 20 indicts the Federal Government for its failure to decisively investigate, curb and punish perpetrators of reported widespread human rights abuse and impunity in the country. The report, particularly, spotlighting extra-judicial killings perpetrated by Nigerian security apparatus––especially the Nigerian Army––specifically mentioned the Shiite and IPOB as victims of such impunity and abuse.
